On June 3, 1965 Beatle John Lennon was delivered a brand new Rolls Royce- the Phantom V model. In early 1967 Ringo Starr suggested that he get the car painted in psychedelic colors. John thought it was a great idea and off it went to get painted, by a group of Dutch artists who called themselves “The Fool.” On this date in 1967 the job had been finished and the freshly painted car was delivered to John. John Lennon was a notoriously bad driver and rarely drove the car himself. He and two chauffeurs who drove him around.
For those of you in the cheap seats I’d like ya to clap your hands to this one; the rest of you can just rattle your jewelry! – John Lennon
I never knew. Astonishing. Groovy.
Why aren’t these artifacts innthe Rockmamd Roll Hall of Fame?
I think in the late 1970’s John had a big tax bill and sold it to the US Government- it has since been sold at an auction so I think it is privately owned right now.
