2017 NFL Mock Draft pick 13 – Arizona Cardinals – Reuben Foster LB Alabama

Arizona finished 7-8-1 last season. The tie with Seattle may have been the worst game ever played on Sunday Night Football. If I am being honest here, I like the Cardinals and Bruce Arians. He is one of the few no nonsense coaches out there, and his press conferences have left me smiling. The Cards were a Jekyll and Hyde team last season. 3 losses and a tie were at the hands of playoff teams – they lost to both Super Bowl participants, but it is the inexplicable losses to Buffalo, LA Rams, Carolina, Minnesota, and the Saints that cost the Cards dearly.

Carson Palmer is 37 going into this season, and they probably need to find his replacement, but the offense was not the issue last season, and I am not sure that QB needs to be addressed at this point in this draft. This is a massive defensive draft, and I think that if Foster is here the Cards have to take him. A QB would not shock, but would be a mild surprise. Foster is the best player available and fills a need. However with Cleveland taking a QB, that may open the door on a run on QBs and Watson or Mahomes could go here.

Foster is the winner of the 2016 Dick Butkus award as the best college LB. There was an issue with him at the draft combine, but that seems to have been a big misunderstanding. The 6’0″ 229lbs Linebacker should pick up the Arizona system rather quickly and should have a long NFL career.
