I have avidly followed sports for over 50 years. The two greatest stories that stick out to me and the 1980 US Olympic Hockey “Miracle On Ice” victory over the U.S.S.R- and winning the gold medal and last years Leicester City 5000-1 team that shocked the world by winning the Premier League championship. It was an amazing story and I do not believe I wlll ever see another one like it.
This year they have been struggling and today they fired the miracle worker Claudio Ranieri, their manager. From what I’ve seen this season it wasn’t his fault, if he was at fault he should have thrown some of the lazy players who quit on him this year under the bus, instead of covering for them. After winning the main players got raises over the summer and they got fat. I was alarmed the first match of the year against lowly Hull at home, this didn’t look like the same team I was watching last year. They looked like they were going through the motions. They’ve played that way all season. At this point they are one point from relegation. I wish Claudio had done what Quinn Maddux and I talked about last year as the miracle season was ending- win the title and retire. Sad day.
