On this day in 2004 Roger Federer became the #1 ranked men’s tennis single’s player in the world. Federer would go on to hold the #1 position for a record 237 weeks.

Roger Federer became a professional tennis player in 1998. He won his first major tournament in 2003 when he won Wimbledon. A week ago he won his record 18th major singles title when he won the Australian Open at the age of 35, which was his first major since 2012. He has won the Australian Open 5ive times, the French Open once, Wimbledon seven times and the U.S. Open 5ive times- all 5ive being in a row 2004-2008. He has held the #1 position in men’s tennis for 302 weeks total over the years. The greatest men’s tennis player ever? I am no expert on tennis but the general consensus seems to be that he is. I bet his is also the greatest athlete who today if he just dressed like any other Joe could go down to the local mall and go unrecognized.

By the way, easy for me to say but if I were Roger Federer when I won the Aussie Open the other day I would have walked off the court and announced my retirement. Go out on top! I think it his highly unlikely that he wins another major but would I bet against him? No.

The Mount Rushmore of Greatest Men’s Tennis Players Ever-

Roger Federer

Rod Laver

Bjorn Borg

Pete Sampras

Would be interested in what Quinn Maddux thinks, he is more the tennis expert than I am. My favorite tennis player ever- John McEnroe.
