George Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four” Published This Day 1949

George Orwell’s dystopian novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four” was published this day in 1949. In a week when the main news story has been how the government is spying on us, how appropriate it is that the anniversary of this great novel would be today. Most of what I read is non-fiction. I hadn’t read this book until a year ago. It is an excellent book. A lot of what Orwell wrote about 64 years ago has become chillingly accurate. Big Brother is watching us and its only going to get worse folks.

  1. I remember reading this as an elective book in college and have loved it ever since then. The anticipation was almost electric when the actual year of 1984 arrived. Many of Orwell’s predictions were already true, the details were off a bit, of course, but the general gist of them was correct.

    • I don’t know why it took as long as it did to read this book but it was a memorable read especially in the times in which we live. I wonder how many times we are captured on camera a day as we go through or business of living life?

    • Even in our small town in Nebraska, it seems like I see a spy camera in so many places. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to them. At least I hope not.
