The Beatles Song Of The Day: “Tomorrow Never Knows”

The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Tomorrow Never Knows.” “Tomorrow Never Knows” is the final track on the greatest album of all times. The song was written by John Lennon. The song is a sign of things to come for The Beatles but oddly enough it wasn’t the last but the first track recorded for “Revolver.” This was without question the most far out Beatles song up to this point. It is hard to believe that the group that recorded “Love Me Do” just 4 years earlier recorded this song. This was John’s attempt to capture an LSD trip in words and sounds. The lyrics were borrowed, adapted and embellished from Dr. Timothy Leary’s book “The Psychedelic Experience” which was a poetic reinterpretation of the ancient Tibetan Book of the Dead. The working title for the song was “The Void” the eventually title “Tomorrow Never Knows” came from something Ringo said. This is a remarkable recording and a great song to finish off “Revolver.”  John Lennon: vocal, organ, and tape-loops/ Paul McCartney: bass guitar and tape loops/ George Harrison: guitars, sitars and tape loops/ Ringo Starr: drums, tambourine and tape loops/ George Martin: piano. The song was recorded April 6th and7th and 22nd,1966 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin.

Tomorrow Never Knows {Lennon-McCartney}

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void It is shining, it is shining
Yet you may see the meaning of within It is being, it is being
Love is all and love is everyone It is knowing, it is knowing
And ignorance and hate mourn the dead It is believing, it is believing
But listen to the colour of your dreams It is not leaving, it is not leaving
So play the game “Existence” to the end Of the beginning, of the beginning Of the beginning, of the beginning Of the beginning, of the beginning Of the beginning, of the beginning
