Jefferson Memorial Dedicated In Washington, D.C.-This Day 1943

On this day in 1943 the Jefferson Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. on the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth.

The Jefferson Memorial was designed by architect John Russell Pope and built by John McShain. Building began in 1938 and it was completed in 1943. The bronze statue of Jefferson was added in 1947. I have been to Washington, D.C. countless times and have of course visited the Jefferson Memorial on many occasions. For some reason the memorial just doesn’t do it for me.
