Terry Fox Begins His “Marathon Of Hope” at St. John’s, Newfoundland This Day 1980

On this day in 1980 Terry Fox began his “Marathon of Hope” in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Terry Fox’s story is remarkable and inspiring. I would highly recommend a viewing of the ESPN 3o for 30 on Terry Fox which was done by the NBA’s Steve Nash. The documentary was called “Into The Wind.”

Terry Fox had lost a leg to cancer and was attempting to run across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer. He ran for 143 days and 3339 miles before his cancer had spread and he had to end his run. Terry Fox died at the age of 22 from cancer on June  28th, 1981. They talk about courageous athletes who come back from injuries. I can’t think of anyone who had more courage than Terry Fox did. Amazing.
