CBS Evening News With Walter Cronkite Goes To 30 Minutes In Length- This Day 1963

On this day in 1963 the CBS Evening News became the first weeknight news broadcast to go from fifteen minutes to a half hour in length. Uncle Walter- Walter Cronkite was the news anchor and would continue to be until his forced retirement in 1980 to be replaced by the always entertaining Dan “What’s the frequency, Kenneth” Rather.

Who would have dreamed in 1963 that in less than 20  years that there would be a channel devoted for news 24 hours a day?
