American Civil War- President Lincoln Brings General McClellan Back To Command

On this day in 1862 President Abraham Lincoln brings back  General George McClellan and gives him command of the Army of the Potomac for the second time after General John Pope’s performance at the Second Battle of Bull Run. General McClellan was great at getting his men ready for battle but always reluctant to go into battle. He was always claiming to be ‘outnumbered’ by his opponent. There were always excuses. He wouldn’t last long the second go around either. After failing to pursue General Lee and the Confederate Army after Antietam, Lincoln would remove McClellan for good on November 5th, 1862.

George McClellan would run against POTUS Lincoln in the 1864 presidential election. He would of course go down to defeat.
