That’s one quality top ten.
And at number 30- what in tarnation is THAT? Groovy Grubworm? Never heard of that, or Harlow Wicox and the Oakies. I guess some folk loved ’em enough to get it up to number 30.
I saw a Beach Boys concert in 69 at the Dallas Fair Park Music Hall and Steam opened for them. Good Lord, they did that song and took off their shirts to perform it, as if they were in a steam bath. Speaking of that, Valarie Perrine would have been much better on the eyes. A read that they were a group of studio musicians and not really a touring band. That’s a song you can’t forget, no matter how hard you try. Great top 40 picks. PP&M hitting with their folk tune was odd since the folk scene had been dead for a few years. Ole Bob killed it when he picked up a Fender Strat and plugged in, causing Joan Baez to have a breakdown.
Interesting that 2 songs that Laura Nyro wrote were on the list, and next to each other. . . I never heard of that Groovy Grubworm either, must have been a regional hit? but not where I was. Dumb title.
