100 GREAT SONGS FROM THE BRITISH INVASION: HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE- THE SWINGING BLUE JEANS

100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963-1966. Hippy Hippy Shake- The Swinging Blue Jeans. In early 1964 immediately on the backs of The Beatles- several British artists hit the US Billboard Pop charts- among them Dusty Springfield, The Dave Clark Five- and this rather obscure band- The Swinging Blue Jeans. ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’ was an older song- written and first performed by Chan Romero in 1959. The Beatles in the early days would play the song regularly during their Hamburg and Cavern Club days. Decades later when the Live At The BBC album was released a Beatles version of Hippy Hippy Shake recorded in July 1963 was in the set. The Swinging Blue Jeans were also from Liverpool. They would have 5 Top 40 hits in the UK- but this was their only hit in the US Billboard Top 40.
