Just a note here- I see recently where The Bible of the charts- Joel Whitburn has released his new Top Pop Singles Book-the latest edition I have covers the years 1955- 2015. This new edition has been divided into two books- one covers 1955-1989- the second covers 1990 to the present- the comment was made that the end of the 80’s was the dividing line- the end of the rock era. In doing these #1 hits- there certainly has been a change in direction in the 1989-90 years. Downward in my opinion. There are of course exceptions to the rule.
