Born Max Elliott in London- Maxi Priest is a dance hall reggae singer. He had 7 Hot 100 singles with 5 making the Top 40- between 1988- 96. I have no recall of ever hearing this song before -until now.
I really like this song. It got a lot of airplay in Sacramento, where I lived in the early 90s.
I first heard this on the “Rick Dees Weekly Top 40” syndicated show. It later became standard fare on many satellite broadcast services for automated radio stations.
I used to love Maxi, but he did a million better tracks than this one 🙂
I am totally unfamiliar with him- this is the first and only track I’ve ever heard.
He started pure reggae but then kinda morphed to go more charty, of which this track was pretty much a turning point. I picked him up on Facebook a few years ago and I think he is US-based now and still touring. Around New England, I think.
I hadn’t heard the name in years- thanks for the update!
