Was there a cooler guy in the early 70’s than Isaac Hayes? If not -he was certainly on the short list. He made the shaved head look cool. Born in 1942 in Covington, Tennessee- Hayes started out as a sessions man for Otis Redding and others at Stax- and a songwriter of note- co wrote such hits as ‘Soul Man.’ Hayes had 13 Hot 100 hits from 1969-79- with 8 making the Top 40. ‘Theme From Shaft’ was his only #1. Isaac Hayes died at the age of 65 in 2008.
