100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963-1966: ‘Because’- Dave Clark Five. The Dave Clark Five wanted the ballad ‘Because’ released as their 5th single in the United States- but their record company- Epic was reluctant to release it as the A-side because being a ballad- it was different from the Dave Clark Five’s earlier formula of hits. Dave Clark insisted it be the #1 and Epic finally agreed. Dave Clark turned out to have been right- the single went to #3 in the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Because’ didn’t chart in the UK- where it was the b-side – to ‘Can’t You See That She’s Mine.’ In 1985 Julian Lennon’s version of ‘Because’ was a Top 40 hit in the U.K.

Didn’t know it by the name but I sure know the song. It’s a good’n.
When I was in high school, the same time that song came out, there was a general consensus that if you were parking on a lonely lane or at the drive-in theater, and that song didn’t get you to at least 1st base, you were a complete flop. Great tune.
