100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963-1966: ‘I’m Crying’- The Animals. For the most part The Animals relied on other writers for their hit songs- I’m Crying’ though was written by Animals singer Eric Burdon and keyboardist and founder Alan Price. ‘I’m Crying’ was the second hit single in the United States following the #1 ‘House Of The Rising Sun’ in 1964. ‘I’m Crying’ a great song- wasn’t as successful as a single #19 in the U.S. The Animals with their love for rhythm and blues- gave them a different sound from most of the groups from this period from Britain. Eric Burdon’s singing- and the organ- always stick out to my ears. They are a group I am certainly championing in this series- in checking my notes I see I am planning on featuring them nine times.

Burdon has a great rock voice; and that band is tight.
Yes, love the raw sound of that tune, man! That Vox Continental is just electrifying! And Burdon’s singing is great!
This one reminds me of Manfred Mann’s 5-4-3-2-1
