Hans Hot 100 Beatles Songs: #39: ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away’-
#39: ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away.’- a John Lennon song – one of 5 songs that make the Hot 100 from the Help album. This is John Lennon under the heavy influence of Bob Dylan. Lennon never said exactly what the song was about- but many suspect it was about the affairs he was having outside of his marriage- to Cynthia who he was married at the time. The ‘HEY’ was added at the suggestion of John’s close friend Pete Shotton.

About here is where lyrics wise, they began to move from the ‘moon-June, their basic boy/girl holding hands’ stuff into more personal territory. Pete Shotton deserves a big thumbs up lifting the whole song. Without that ‘Hey’ it could have sounded worthy, but dirge-like.
agree that is the most memorable moment in the song.
One of my favorite Beatles songs.
