Coven was a pop band from Chicago. This was their only Top 40 hit. They had three make the Hot 100 in their career. The songwriting team of Lambert- Potter wrote a number of hits in the 1970’s- including “Baby Come Back’ for Player and one of the worst songs of that decade ‘Rock And Roll Heaven’ by The Righteous Brothers.
A darn popular song back in the day, and a good movie. Social injustice was big getting big back then and Billy Jack was possibly the first movie to produce a kung-fu type hero. He could really do all those kicks and take downs. Tough dude.
100% in agreement, Phil.
I love this song.
I loved this song when I was little. I remember older kids talking about Billy Jack, but I was too young to be allowed to see it. I still haven’t seen it.
Diana, it’s an emotionally intense movie, so beware if you do get a chance. Billy Jack is a badass but if people weren’t being such jerks and worse he wouldn’t have to be.
This song is just gorgeous. I still love the first “Billy Jack” movie, but follow-ups were just not great.
good song . It had already been a top 10 hit in Canada for a one-hit-wonder band called Original Caste (sic).
I love the song. The lyrics are important and should become the USA’s new mission statement. I agree with Sharon, the first movie was fantastic but the sequels…
Just noticed it was written by same guys who wrote ‘Don’t Pull Your Love’ by Hamilton, Joe, Frank & Reynolds.
Coven, under singer Jinx Dawson, later morphed into a goth/occult metal band. She is still performing and has a cult following.
I didn’t know that– thanks for the info!
I sat through this movie many a time.
