#48: ‘I’m A Loser’- a song John Lennon wrote during his ‘Dylan’ period. It was during the height of Beatlemania in 1964- who would have thought John was having any doubts about himself at that time? You’d have thought he would have been on top of the world but as he would later say- “Part of me suspects I’m a loser and part of me thinks I’m God Almighty.’ Not that the song was totally autobiographical- but this song influenced by Dylan and country music- was in a way what he would later say about #1 hit from 1965 ‘Help!’- an introspective song. It was considered for a time as a potential single-but that idea was dropped when John wrote ‘I Feel Fine.’ ‘I’m A Loser’ is also notable as one of the first Beatles songs to look beyond the theme of love.
