#73: ‘Within You Without You’- George Harrison’s contribution to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I must say that back in the mid 70’s when I ‘discovered’ The Beatles there is no way that ‘Within You Without You’ would have made my Top 100 Beatles songs. To that point in time I really hadn’t listened to that much music and ‘Within You Without You’ certainly didn’t fit into the type of songs I was used to hearing. Sgt. Pepper was also the first studio album by The Beatles that I had bought- after buying a few compilations -most notably the Red and Blue albums. At first I kind of dreaded when the first side of ‘Sgt. Pepper’ ended and flipped it over to side 2- and ‘Within You Without You’- but I never skipped over it. It quickly grew on me and over the years it is now a song I love. ‘Within You Without You’ was George’s second song in the Indian classical style- the first being ‘Love You To’ from their previous album- Revolver.
