Fueled by the movie- La Bamba- the Ritchie Valens story- Los Lobos had a fluke #1 with their cover of ‘La Bamba’- I am not knocking Los Lobos- they are one of my favorite bands from the 1980’s- and they are still around- I see the other day they did the national anthem at a Dodgers or Angels baseball game- but they were not hit makers- their only Top 40 hit was also from this soundtrack ‘Come On, Let’s Go’- #21 another Valens cover which was oddly the first single release from the movie- ‘La Bamba’ was the follow up. I saw Los Lobos a couple years after this- it was a great concert but interestingly they didn’t do ‘La Bamba’- that night. I wonder if they have mixed feelings about it?
I was already a big fan of Lobos before this. It is a good cover by a really good band.
