Hans Hot 100 Beatles Songs: #83: ‘She’s Leaving Home’- This is one of those Paul McCartney tunes which helped to spread the love for The Beatles to older generations. I can remember being shocked once to walk into my grandparents home and to hear my rather stern grandfather playing The Beatles ‘Blue’ compilation album with ‘She’s Leaving Home’ blasting from the stereo. While he certainly wasn’t a Beatles fanatic he did have the Red and Blue albums.
This is one of the rare recordings in which The Beatles didn’t play on the recordings- and only Paul and John were on the recording- no George or Ringo. Paul was inspired to write the song from a story he saw in the Daily Mirror about a 17 year old girl named Melanie Coe- Paul did invent his own story- in the song though.
‘She’s Leaving Home’- another Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band song in the countdown- only one song didn’t make the cut.

Interesting that only Paul and John were involved. I love this song, it tells a world in so few words. I also love how the melody is arranged.
