This was more of an interesting story- the success of the song- than it was a good song. William McCord was born in Riverside, California in 1944. He was 42 years old. Back in the late 60’s he charted at #36 with Judy Clay with a song called ‘Country Girl-City Man’- and in 1981 as Billy Vera And The Beaters with #39 ‘ I Can Take Care Of Myself’- this was his big moment- and his last chart hit. ‘At This Moment’ recorded live was released back in 1981 and did nothing- on it’s re-release it goes to #1. The song had been featured in the television show Family Ties [never saw it] and that generated new interest in it- and before you knew it- Billy Vera was at #1.
I didn’t know the song by the title but the moment it began to play I recognized it. Maybe the best heartache song of all time and yes as good or better than Unchained Melody. Thank you for bringing this song back ❤
I liked this song well enough, but loved “Family Ties” (the only show I ever got to see a live taping of in the 8 years I lived in L.A.), so it was great having the song featured on that show.
