I didn’t realize how short this single was – coming in at a shade over 2 minutes. Bill Withers repeats “I Know’ 26 times’. Withers was 31 years old at the time he wrote this song- working in a factory making bathrooms for 747’s. Backing Bill on this- MG’s- Donald’ Duck’ Dunn and Al Jackson Jr, produced by Booker T. Jones himself, Stephen Stills on guitar. You can’t go wrong with Bill Withers.
“I know, I know, I know, I know…” Good music!
the “I knows” were originally place-holders… he was going to put in another verse later, but someone (producer I think ) liked it and convinced to keep it as is. Worked out well – great song and seemed like he was a great man .
it did work out great- with the ‘I knows’ can’t imagine the song without them. I was happy to see him get into the Rock Hall of Fame while he was still living.
