Hans Hot 100 Beatles Songs: #95: ‘Baby’s In Black’

The Countdown so far- 100- ‘ Any Time At All’ / 99- ‘No Reply’ / 98-‘You Know My Name [Look Up The Number’] 97-‘The Inner Light’ 96-‘You Won’t See Me’ / 95-‘Baby’s In Black.’

‘Baby’s In Black’ is one of four songs in the Hot 100 from the late 1964 release Beatles For Sale. This would be the first song that they would record for the album. By this time in The Beatles story- the Lennon-McCartney songwriting team was a collaboration mostly in name, not in reality except for maybe a line here or there or a suggestion. But ‘Baby’s In Black’ were like the early days when they worked together- ‘eyeball to eyeball’ as Paul would later put it. This song has a bluesy and country feel about it.
