I was 8 years old that week, and I distinctly remember many of those songs. I especially loved “It’s My Party”, “Sukiyaki”, “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer”, “Blue on Blue” and “Can’t Get Used to Losing You”.
Based on the names of the other songs on the album Leslie Gore seemed to have decided to choose the crying theme and stick with it 😀
Who would have thought a Japanese singer could have a huge hit in the US! Lesley Gore was a good singer, too bad she didn’t branch out from the WA-wah crying songs. I was a teenager in 63 and remember the Nat King Cole song was all over the radio that summer. Ahhhh, summertime.
Got to love [sometimes] those fluke hits…. and yes what a great summertime tune from Cole.
In only eight months the Beatles would appear on the Ed Sullivan Show and change everything.
