Great Baseball Moments- Rose-Bud- NLCS Game 3 1973:- Pete Rose and Bud Harrelson Scuffle. Below is a good article describing what led up to this ‘fight’ at second base better Rose and Harrelson. I can still remember- hurrying home from school to see as much of the game as i could. It was the fifth inning when I walked in the door. My dad had the game on television- and the first thing I see is Rose and Harrelson rolling around on the ground. Crazy. I was happy when the Mets defeated the Reds. I would probably have rooted for the real Reds- the Red Army against the Cincinnati Reds back then.
Looked like a spike job to me.
I didn’t know about Borbon tearing the cap with his teeth…To me Harrelson’s comments were not that bad…yea I hated them also. I would have rooted for the Yankees over them.
Borbon also once during a bench clearing brawl- bit pirates reliever Daryl Patterson- Patterson was sent to the hospital to get a tetinnus shot.
You are kidding lol…jeez I had no clue of that!
there was a lot of bad blood with the Pirates and Reds in that era.. That would have happened in 1974 the same year that Dock Ellis went head hunting to start a game against the Reds.
I do remember reading about that game…it was some article about his LSD game and it went over that also.
Dock Ellis was a memorable Pirate to say the least.
Yes he was…the first time I remember him was with the Yankees…even then he could pitch
They sure have eliminated a lot of the extra curricular out of the game. Im all for safety but a good punch up relieves some stress. Why would Bud take exception to nice guy Pete.
