GREAT MOMENTS IN BASEBALL HISTORY- INSTANT CLASSIC- JAVY BAEZ RUN DOWN- WILL CRAIG’S BONEHEAD PLAY

Cubs' Javier Báez makes fools of Pirates during bizarre play - Los Angeles Times

Great Moments In Baseball History- Instant Classic- It has been a terrible ride the last 29 years being a Pittsburgh Pirates fan- they have in those 29 years [including this year which is a lost cause already] only had 4 winning seasons in that period of time. Yesterday against the Cubs – a new low. I coached Little League back in the day and never saw anything this bad. Keep in mind when you watch this- there are TWO OUTS- All Will Craig the Pirates first baseman had to do is step on first base- out #3 and the inning is over. I will let the video below tell the story. In 100 years Will Craig though will be remembered- for one of the biggest bonehead plays ever.

  1. This didn’t take long to make the list! Every time I pass the video I have to watch it again just to believe it.
Did he forget it was two outs and thought the guy was trying to steal home? I’m just trying to apply logic to this.

    • and all he had to do after he committed himself to running him back- was tag him out- the run doesn’t score… it will be hard to top this one..

    • I know… I guess subconsciously I tried to defend it…but it just doesn’t work…it was a bone head play.

  2. wowsa – I had heard of that play but it’s the first time I watched the video. Someone better give him a pair of mouse-ears to attach to that cap, because that was rather Mickey Mouse! How’d you even score that if you’re an official scorer?
Shame about the Pirates, as I’ve said before. They have a proud history and are in a tiny (by MLB standards) and shrinking market, but I think it’s still one that loves baseball. They deserve better. If Cincinnati can make it work, so too could Pittsburgh with better ownership and managing
