Great Moments In Baseball History- Instant Classic- It has been a terrible ride the last 29 years being a Pittsburgh Pirates fan- they have in those 29 years [including this year which is a lost cause already] only had 4 winning seasons in that period of time. Yesterday against the Cubs – a new low. I coached Little League back in the day and never saw anything this bad. Keep in mind when you watch this- there are TWO OUTS- All Will Craig the Pirates first baseman had to do is step on first base- out #3 and the inning is over. I will let the video below tell the story. In 100 years Will Craig though will be remembered- for one of the biggest bonehead plays ever.

Did he forget it was two outs and thought the guy was trying to steal home? I’m just trying to apply logic to this.
and all he had to do after he committed himself to running him back- was tag him out- the run doesn’t score… it will be hard to top this one..
I know… I guess subconsciously I tried to defend it…but it just doesn’t work…it was a bone head play.
I have watched this over and over and am just floored by this!!!
The most attention the Pirates have received in years- maybe not the type you want though! Its like watching a train wreck.

The Pirates have been embarrassing enough for the past 3 decades. How can you only have 4 winning seasons in 29? I would hope that something like this would bring a wake up call to the entire organization–especially the ownership! I am not holding my breath.
Very similar to the Tigers organization. We’ve had Miggy to watch, but nothing real spectacular outside of that .
Yep- both organizations struggling. i read the other day that all the prospects they received for Verlander- are now gone…. they got nothing for him…..

he made a very bad error a few days earlier that ended up costing them 3 runs- backhanding a grounder in front of him- he botched it- the guy got on base- then a 3 run home run.. he makes the easy play its the 3rd out.
wowsa – I had heard of that play but it’s the first time I watched the video. Someone better give him a pair of mouse-ears to attach to that cap, because that was rather Mickey Mouse! How’d you even score that if you’re an official scorer?
Shame about the Pirates, as I’ve said before. They have a proud history and are in a tiny (by MLB standards) and shrinking market, but I think it’s still one that loves baseball. They deserve better. If Cincinnati can make it work, so too could Pittsburgh with better ownership and managing
look at tampa bay- great management they stay competitive.
