Sort of like The Eagles/ Don Henley- I detest the f’in Eagles but like Don Henley as a solo artist- the same goes with Wham!/ George Michael. Never cared for Wham! I wouldn’t buy one of their albums but I do own some George Michael solo albums and liked most of his post-Wham career. This is a catchy song but I never cared for it.
Dave and I talked about them the other day. Him leaving Wham might have saved him in a way…from falling into the Duran Duran and Flock of Seagulls MTV… never to be taken seriously category. He sure didn’t look back. The other guy was never known much.
semi off topic but Don Henley struck a home run as a solo artist with ‘The End of the Innocence’ (w/ Bruce Hornsby), my favorite record of his. Too bad he keeps striking down youtube postings of the song.. however one live performance (w/o Bruce) remains
I thought it was cute … but when I heard “Careless Whisper,” on the same album, I thought “That man’s voice is a gift, and I hope people can see past MTV to discover it.”
I totally agree Sharon. His songwriting and vocal talents really stood out on “Careless Whisper”.
This song is pop-radio fodder, but it brings back happy memories anyway.
