1971 Pirates Game 13: Tuesday April 20, 1971. The Pirates began a 12 game home stand tonight- against western division teams. Two future Hall of Famers did them in- Henry Aaron aka ‘Bad Henry’-hit a 2 run home run with one out in the top of the first inning- and pitcher Phil Niekro took care of the rest- as the Braves won 2-0. Niekro- the best knuckleball pitcher of all time- pitched a complete game shutout- giving up 6 hits and a walk while striking out 7.
- For the Pirates- Bob Moose pitched well in defeat- giving up 2 runs in 8 innings- that one mistake to Henry Aaron did him in. He wasn’t the first or last pitcher victimized by ‘Bad Henry.’
- The Pirates 6 hits- Dave Cash and Vic Davalillo had two singles each- the only extra base hit was from shortstop Gene Alley who had a triple.
- Attendance at Three Rivers Stadium on this Tuesday evening- 8755. Time of Game- 1:58. The Pirates fall to 7-6 on the season 1/2 game out of first place.
