DEEP TRACKS FROM 1971: ‘CAROLYN’- MERLE HAGGARD

Merle Haggard – Carolyn (1971, Vinyl) - Discogs

Deep Cuts From 1971: ‘Carolyn’- Merle Haggard. Merle Haggard is easily my favorite country artist. The run he had from the mid-1960’s until the mid-1970’s in great albums and singles is untouched in the history of country music. In 1971 he released four singles- two peaked at #1, and the others at #2 and #3. One of the number one hits Merle had from that year was a song written by his old Bakersfield friend Tommy Collins. “Carolyn.’ A decade later Haggard would pay tribute to Collins with a biographical song titled ‘Leonard.”

  1. My dad played this one…really good song and thanks Hans for bringing it up to me again. It has been decades since I heard this.
