By this point I was really getting tired of the Lionel Richie ballad. His work with The Commodores was outstanding- especially the ballads that were sort of up tempo- but when he started to drown into the depths of adult contemporary music- he started losing me. This won Lionel a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance-but of course Grammy Awards in this era were kind of a dubious honor. ‘Truly” was the debut single from Richie’s solo debut album. By the way has anyone ever seen Lionel and Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Andre Dawson in the same room together? I’ve always thought they looked a lot alike.

  1. Lionel Richie has written some beautiful songs and many ladies love him, including my dear wife. But I hear you, when it’s one ballad after the other, it can be too much.

Everything in moderation, except for The Beatles!😆
