#162: “It Won’t Be Long” from With The Beatles. The opening track on The Beatles second album With The Beatles. I have noticed something in doing this countdown- I have placed a number of tracks from this album on the list already- and it’s not that I am not a fan of the album- I’d give it 5 stars but I have come to the conclusion that the songs on the album play better as a whole instead of as individual songs. Does that make any sense? ‘It Won’t Be Long’ was a Lennon-McCartney tune- written mostly by John but Paul did assist. This is a pretty good early Beatles song. This was a song which got the attention of a music critic from the London Times [not a rock critic]- who said the song had ‘Aeolian cadences’ – whatever that means. John would years later say he didn’t know what it meant that ‘it sounded like exotic birds.’

#161: ‘One After 909’- from Let It Be. John had written this song back when he was in his late teens-in the late 50’s. It didn’t find its way onto an album until the end with Let It Be. They played ‘One After 909’ in the famous rooftop concert. John would say in an interview- “That was something I wrote when I was about seventeen. I lived at 9 Newcastle Road. I was born on the ninth of October. It’s just a number that follows me around, but, numerologically, apparently I’m a number six or a three or something, but it’s all part of nine.”

  1. It Won’t Be Long is an earworm. I like the song and understand why you like it better as a whole. I much prefer to listen to albums as a whole than broken up into playlists if they are put together right.
