The first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 to feature rap vocals. In an earlier post I think I made an error and said that Blondie had 3 #1 hits- they had 4- “Heart Of Glass” 1979, “Call Me’ and ‘The Tide Is High’ in 1981 and this one-which I have never cared much for. At this point I believe they started to lose the plot. ‘Rapture’ was over 6 minutes but it seemed like it went on for hours. Thumbs down. The album wasn’t very good either. It would fall into the category of most disappointing albums- because I liked their work up to this point. They would only have one more hit after this- and it was a minor one ‘Island Of Lost Souls’ #37 off of their next album The Hunter.
Does pop music get any better?
I don’t think as much as in the past. I recently saw the song that has been #1 for like 2 months have never heard of the song or the artist. and really don’t care to.
I don’t know this title and after reading your comment don’t plan on getting acquainted with it.
i think if you heard 5 seconds of it you’d remember it..
48 seconds in and it sounds vaguely familiar
You haven’t missed a thing.
I knew so little about rap music when this came out that I thought she was doing Dylan.
Wow, I had no idea Blondie sang rap – not to mention this tune is the first no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to feature rap. I think she does deserve some points for this.
I kind of like the funky groove of the song. My main problem is it’s too long and too monotonous. Cutting it in half would have made it better!
This was so cool when it first came out. Now, I can’t stand it. The video has some interesting folks in it.
I didn’t like this song at first, but it eventually grew on me. It’s not a rap song; Blondie just rapped some vocals. I agree that it’s about two minutes too long.
6 minutes too long-
