Eddie Rabbitt was born Edward Thomas Rabbitt in Brooklyn, New York in 1941. He enjoyed a string of country hits in the 1970’s -then first crossed into the pop charts with the theme song from the movie “Every Which Way But Loose” in 1979. He would have eight Top 40 hits- with “I Love A Rainy Night” being his only #1. My favorite Eddie Rabbitt song also had rain as a subject- he wrote ‘Kentucky Rain’ which Elvis had a hit with in 1969. The back to back country #1’s on the pop chart- of “9 to 5′- Dolly Parton and “I Love A Rainy Night’- Eddie Rabbitt is the last time two country songs have been #1 back to back on the Billboard Hot 100.
I love the snap-clap rhythm on this one. For me, that made the song.
“Kentucky Rain” is my favorite Elvis song. Not that you asked…
I love Kentucky Rain- may not be my favorite Elvis song- but it’s high up on the list. I remember being shocked when I found out Eddie Rabbitt wrote it!
Ronnie Milsap played piano on the track. Sometimes the greats back each other.
I didn’t know that!
I believe the rhythm was inspired by windshield wipers.
Catchy tune. I remember it on the radio.
Wow. He died young.
Loved the hell outta this song back in the day.
