Just so happened today that the next #1 hit on my daily countdown of every Billboard #1 hit -was ‘Coming Up’- and the next Top 40 hit from 1971- was Paul’s ‘Another Day.’ Paul McCartney Day!.. ‘Another Day’ was Paul’s first hit single after leaving The Beatles in early 1970. There were no singles released from his solo album debut McCartney. This is another one of Paul’s observational style songs- drummer Denny Seiwell would call it “Eleanor Rigby in New York City.” Paul’s wife Linda was credited as co-writer- which was a legal business maneuver. ‘Another Day’ has never been a favorite of mine- it’s alright nothing great. John Lennon would later in his song directed at Paul- “How Do You Sleep?’ sing ‘the only thing you done was yesterday and since you’ve gone you’re just another day.’

Actually ‘Another Day’ was written and previewed in 1969 during the Let It Be sessions with The Beatles- Paul dug it up and recorded it again in the Ram sessions in 1971- although it was released as a stand alone single not on the Ram album.
