  • NICK DRAKE: FIVE LEAVES LEFT: 1969: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: FOLK: Nick Drake’s first album- and my favorite of the three he released. His music was pretty much ignored for twenty years before being re-discovered in the 1990’s. I can’t recall exactly how I stumbled into Nick- I read about him somewhere and purchased the box set Fruit Tree which had the three studio albums plus an album of unreleased material. Stunning music from an artist who was before his time. It’s sad that he didn’t live to see the acclaim his music has received. Mount Rushmore of Five Leaves Left- ‘Time Has Told Me’, ‘River Man’, ‘Way To Blue’ and ‘Cello Song.’

  1. Man, I dig this album, a unique voice and mood creator. Drake was Emo decades before it made a sound. It will forever be an unanswered question whether it was suicide or accidental overdose. But his debut album Five Leaves Left (reference to a cigarette rolling paper’s company’s pop-up notice that one was low on papers) was/is a personal fave. Spellbinding.
