It seems like every song that The Beatles wrote has been covered by someone- some of course more than others. I am going to try a new feature – a cover a day of each song that The Beatles released- starting with the first single “Love Me Do.” I will try int his feature to find the best covers or at least my favorites- not many covers of ‘Love Me Do’ out there.
Sandie Shaw never had a hit in the US- but she was big in her native England in the 1960’s with three #1 hits “There’s Always Something There To Remind Me”, “Long Live Love” and “Puppet On A String.” She had 16 Top 40 hits on the UK charts. She recorded “Love Me Do” at the end of her run of success in 1969.
Don’t think I had heard of her before. Though the title “There’s Always Something There To Remind Me” immediately rang a bell. British New Wave duo Naked Eyes hat a hit with that tune in the ’80s.
I had read the name somewhere- when I looked her up I was surprised she was so successful in the UK.
Did she win Eurovision?
I think she first appeared on ‘Ready Steady Go!’ a weekly UK television pop music programme and her ‘gimmick’ was that she sang in her bare feet – oh, and she had a pretty very 60’s face ! I wonder where she is now… I’ll google it later. I think she won the Eurovision with ‘Puppet on a String’…
she is still living…
So I see. She’s put on a fair bit of weight since those days. Life is not easy. Even for the successful.
