The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs- Hits That Didn’t Make The Top 60. When I started working on this list over a year ago I had a little over 100 songs- I was planning on a Hot 100 but that seemed a little too much- and a little too difficult. I don’t know why but I settled on 60 songs. The following are a list of the hits from John, Paul, George or Ringo which didn’t make the Top 60- they include some #1 hits.
From Paul McCartney 4 singles which went to #1 didn’t make my list- “My Love”, “Coming Up’, “Ebony And Ivory” and “”Say, Say, Say.” “This Girl Is Mine” his #2 hit with the self proclaimed King Of Pop- Michael Jackson didn’t- it wouldn’t have made the Top 100 either. “Goodnight Tonight” #5, “No More Lonely Nights” #6, “Spies Like Us” #7, “Take It Away” #10, “Venus And Mars/ Rock Show” #12, “Getting Closer” #20- all failed to make the Top 60.
From John Lennon- “Woman” his #2 from Double Fantasy and “Nobody Told Me” #5 from the posthumous Milk And Honey- didn’t make the list.
From George Harrison- his final #1- “Got My Mind Set On You” and “You” #20 didn’t make it.
From Ringo- his #1 “You’re Sixteen”, #3 “No No Song” and #6 “Only You” failed to make the cut.
What will #1 be? Could it be- Paul’s “Mary Had A Little Lamb?”, George’s”Ding Dong, Ding Dong”? John singing his cover of “Bony Moronie?, Yoko Ono screetching “Don’t Worry Kyoko [Mummy’s Only Looking For Her Hand In The Snow.”, Ringo covering Cole Porter’s “Night And Day?”- no it won’t be any of those.
Doggone, I figured for sure it was gonna be “that dog gone girl is mine”! LOL! Actually curious to see which McCartney tune you’ve not done yet or wasn’t in that quite good list of misses above!
You sure its a McCartney tune Dave? …..
Thinking you’d told us your fave John, George & Ringo ones…tomorrow will tell!
Seriously though , ‘ The Girl is Mine’ always brings Jack Black in ‘High Fidelity’ to mind…when he’s talking about musical crimes perpetrated by formerly great artists (or something like that.)
A great list and with some *ahem* off the wall tunes!
““This Girl Is Mine” his #2 hit with the self proclaimed King Of Pop- Michael Jackson didn’t- it wouldn’t have made the Top 100 either.’
This did make me chuckle (and rightly so) – Many thanks!
i was thinking in the early 80s working with Jackson and Wonder you’d think at least on paper they should come up with some good stuff… maybe too much ego involved- although i do like the album cut with Steveland- “What’s That Your Doing”
Oh you’re a tease! When will you post #1????
tomorrow- and the entire list Sunday..
Nice tease, Hans! 🙂
I adore McCartney’s “My Love” but agree that his duet w/Michael Jackson “The Girl is Mine” is horrific. It’s the major flaw of the “Thriller” album.
Hans when I saw My Love…I did a double take thinking…what?
I’m thinking a Lennon song…I’m probably wrong but that is what I’ll go by.
