190: “Flying” from Magical Mystery Tour. An instrumental is the first Beatles song to have the writing credit of- “Lennon-McCartney- Harrison- Starkey.” All four Beatles played on the song including Lennon on the melloton. It has never been a Beatles song that I got excited about hearing- when I play Magical Mystery Tour I never skip over it- but I don’t think outside of The Beatles Channel that I’ve ever heard “Flying” on the radio. Album filler.

189. “Her Majesty”- from Abbey Road. Paul McCartney wrote this and is the only one to play on it. He came in early one day while The Beatles were making Abbey Road and in three takes. Originally it was going to be in the side 2 medley of songs, it was going to be placed between “Mean Mr. Mustard” and “Polythene Pam.” In the end it was tacked on at the end of side 2 a hidden track after the medley. In all it lasts only .23 seconds. I am glad it was added on – interestingly side 1 ends with the longest song [if you don’t count Revolution #9}- side 2 ends with their shortest song. Fifty-two years after it’s release- “Her Majesty”- Queen Elizabeth II” still lives!

  1. The first time I heard Her Majesty I jumped a mile…because if you have it turned up it comes smashing in when you think the album is over with.

Flying…I would skip it every time when I was younger…then it grew on me.
