A Taste Of Honey had been around since forming in Los Angeles in 1971. It wasn’t until 1978 that they got a record contract and recorded an album. “Boogie Oogie Oogie” was their first single, a disco song with crossover appeal- and it went to #1. They would only have one more Top 40 hit and it was another big one- a #3 in 1981- “Sukiyaki.” A Taste Of Honey won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1979 beating The King Elvis Costello. I remember turning the television off and not watching the Granny Awards again for about fifteen years.

    • the one great thing about the disco songs- while they were played to death at the time –they’ve been left alone for 40 years… it’s not like some lame song like Hotel California which is still played to death like a new song.. I think this was the first time I’d heard Boogie Oogie Oogie in a couple decades…

    • Yeah. Disco became like the plague when the 80s came in. We’ve seen the rise & fall of hair bands, grunge rock and boy bands. Now, we are stuck with rap, techno-pop and some strange version on country. I stopped listening to Top 40 stations over 20 years ago.
