Another great Creedence Clearwater Revival song from the late 60’s early 70’s period. It was about to end- the hits and the group- they had 2 more Top 40 hits in them before breaking up. While many have seen the song as a commentary on the Vietnam War and the dissent in America at the time- Fogerty has said in interviews that it was about the discord going on in CCR at the time. The band had exceeded all expectations- they had all this great success- were rich and famous and the members of the band were depressed and unhappy. Great song whatever it’s about. “Hey Tonight” the b-side also got a lot of airplay.
I didn’t know the back story on the song. I did enjoy playing it live.
Not a musician but I would imagine about any CCR hit would be a favorite of bands to play.
This is possibly my favorite CCR tune! It also happens to be the first CCR song I ever heard back in Germany when I was 8 years or so. My six-year-older sister had the 45 – btw, terrific B-side as well!
You just never know what prompts songwriters and what is in their heads. Great song, even if I didn’t understand the meaning.
I never mind not knowing what a song is about- i like coming up with my own thought on it.. I wouldn’t have thought this one was about the band itself at the time but it does make sense.
Yeah. If the song speaks to me, why they wrote it is largely irrelevant. It’s kind of like viewing drawings or paintings or people…eye of the beholder…or, ear of the beholder. 😆
One of many Hans. You always give me a CCR fix.
nothing ever wrong with that!
