The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #9: “What Is Life”- George Harrison. Another song from George’s first post- Beatles album- All Things Must Pass. The second single from that album- it reached #10 in the Billboard Hot 100. There has been some debate as to whether the song is- a love song-to his wife Pattie or another one of Harrison’s devotional songs. This is another song that Harrison stockpiled from his Beatles days- it was written in early 1969 but not used.
That opening riff is great fun to play on the bass!
One of my favorites by Harrison. You can definitely hear Phil Spector’s wall of sound elements, which I’ve always loved.
YES love this one! The video you chose was the winner in a contest he held to make a video for the song, which I’m sure you already know…
Another song of his I love.
The video was filmed on the Presidio of San Francisco, where I worked for 10 years and lived for two of them. It always makes me smile, combined as it is with a wonderful song.
A truly great one! You’re going to have your work cut out to pull in 8 better than this… I look forward to it!
