Deep Cuts From 1971: “Grandma’s Hands”- Bill Withers. Bill Withers was thirty-three years old when his debut album- Just As I Am came out. The big hit on the album was “Ain’t No Sunshine”- a great tune which Rolling Stone magazine ranked at #280 on their list of 500 Greatest Songs Ever list. The album is outstanding and one of the highlights is a single which just missed the Top 40- “Grandma’s Hands” which peaked at #42. “Grandma’s Hands” was written about– yes his grandma who would take him to church when he was growing up. “Ain’t No Sunshine” and ” Lean On Me” are the songs that Bill Withers is remembered most for- I think “Grandma’s Hands” is just as good.
