My Music Listening Journal 2021: Day 7: Thursday January 1, 2021.
- LEONARD COHEN: 1969: 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: FOLK: The second album from Cohen-who was in his mid-30’s when he made his debut. Cohen, who was a poet before turning to music- is one of the rare singers- whose voice got better with age. At this point his strength was his songwriting- his singing was weak. Later in his career -he certainly didn’t turn into Frank Sinatra but his voice had added character- he sounded like an old testament prophet at the end. Mount Rushmore of this album- “Bird On The Wire” is one of his classics, “Story Of Isaac”, “The Old Revolution” and “The Partisan.”
- NEIL YOUNG: COMES A TIME: 1978: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: COUNTRY ROCK: This was the first ‘new’ Neil Young album I owned. Neil 50 plus years into his career is still full of changes- more than any other artist I can think of. This album a country rock one. A great story that Neil has confirmed- that he didn’t like the sound of the finished album-due to damage to the master tape during shipment to the mixing facility.-so he bought up the 200,000 albums and used them as shingles for a barn roof. Mount Rushmore- “Comes A Time”, “Lotta Love’, “Human Highway” and “Four Strong Winds.”
