  • TRAFFIC: THE LOW SPARK OF HIGH HEELED BOYS: 1971: 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: APPLE ITUNES: PROG ROCK: Stevie Winwood’s voice always a highlight- there are only six songs on this album- the two I really like- the title track and “Rock and Roll Stew”- the rest of the album -alright but nothing that will make me want to play it again this year. I’ve now listened to 10 1971 albums in the first five days of 2021. My goal- how about a couple hundred from that year?

  • THE BEATLES: HELP!: 1965: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: ROCK AND ROLL: The hit singles “Help!” and “Ticket To Ride” along with “You’ve Got To Hide You’re Love Away” and of course “Yesterday” the Mount Rushmore of The Beatles 5th album. Their music was changing- and would radically change with the next album at the end of 1965- Rubber Soul.

  • BRETT DENNEN: THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION: 2013: 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: POP: I heard a couple Dennen singles on Sirius/XM -Spectrum channel which I really liked- “Comeback Kid [That’s My Dog} and Sydney {I’ll Come Running” were two songs I kept wanting to hear. This is a best of which came out in 2013- kind of early in his career- but it has a good selection of songs- I’d add “The One That Loves You The Most” and “Ain’t No Reason” to the Mount Rushmore.

  • BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: GREETINGS FROM ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY: 1973: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: IPOD: ROCK: The Boss’s debut album was released 48 years ago today. To me it wasn’t until Born To Run his third album that Bruce put it all together- but the debut had its high marks- “Blinded By The Light”, “Growin’ Up”, “For You” and “Spirit In The Night” would be my Mount Rushmore- while “Mary Queen Of Arkansas” is one of the more embarrassing moments of Bruce’s career.
