Bread were masters of soft rock for good or ill. Their front man was David Gates who wrote and produced all the hits. Bread from 1970-77 had 13 Hot 100 hits- 12 made the Top 40. Of the 12 Top 40 hits 10 made the Top 20. It wasn’t until their last single “Hooked On You” in 1977 that a single of theirs failed to make the Top 40. Around that time the band disbanded and David Gates went on to a solo career. His biggest solo hit “Goodbye Girl” #15.
