The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #30: “When We Was Fab”- George Harrison. When George Harrison released his big comeback album Cloud Nine in 1987 it kind of took me by surprise. He hadn’t released an album since 1982- and back then five years without an album was an eternity, today no one would even think about it. After- Gone Troppo in 1982 George was pretty fed up with the music industry. It looked to me like he had retired. His two 1980’s albums- Somewhere In England and Gone Troppo hadn’t gotten good receptions either though critics or record sales and he wasn’t happy with his record company- so he stepped away. Cloud Nine was a return to form- the album cracked the Top 10 and he had a surprise #1 hit with “Got My Mind Set On You.” My favorite song on the album though was his look back on Beatlemania- “When We Was Fab.” “When We Was Fab” was released as a single and peaked at #23 and it also had a fun music video to go with it. Look for appearances of Ringo, Elton John, Jeff Lynne and while you won’t recognize him- Paul McCartney with a walrus suit on.
